Other than with the beginning loop
of beads, we no longer use knots in our peyote stitchwork.
Knots are difficult to conceal and tend to unravel
at the wrong time. Instead of knotting, we weave
our ends through 20 or more beads trying to stay
in an opaque area so that the extra
thread does not change the look of the finished
work. Some beaders work the thread through an entire
row of already finished work before snipping it
off; others will work through several beads and
then work down, back, up, and around to form a loose
knot to prevent future unraveling. Only after
checking the beads for color fastness (do this with
an extra bead that is not in your work), a bit of
clear nail polish can be very effective for keeping
the ends of tails in control.
